| Okay, okay, okay! Enough already with the "update" messages. Geez, can't a guy be too busy? I actually have been extremely busy the past couple of months, and it is not going to let up any time soon. It is not a bad busy, just busy, busy. Know what I mean? I like all the things that are keeping me busy, but some things just fall by the wayside as low priority items. Bummer that xanga is a low priority. But to keep all the interested parties in the know. . . Still crunching away on NHS's WASC report, still working on AP vertical alignment, still working on a grammar curriculum for 9, 10, 11, and 12, still writing a novel. And I have been bestowed with the honor of speaking at NHS's first graduation as speaker at large. Quite an honor. It actually causes my eyes to leak a little knowing that students want me to speak. Other than that life is just a tire-swing. | | |
| So I read in the paper about this dude in SLO who puts together this huge shoe-collection drive to send to the tsunami victims. The reason the children there want shoes--to go to school. I cannot help but ponder this and compare this fact with the children in the United States. You know the ones, the high school students who don't really care about going to school, the ones who do not understand the power of an education (even the basic education of a public secondary school), the ones who do everything within their power to miss class, the ones who do not do their homework, the ones who do not study for tests, the ones who wait for mom and dad to hand them everything on a silver platter. And here we have children who are stressing about not having shoes to go to school. No wonder the U.S. gets it butt kicked in the education contest; if it is not going to give me immediate throttle response (i.e., money, material goods, or some lazy-ass sit-on-my-butt-well-paying-job where I get paid for doing nothing), then students do not even begin to see the long term ramifications and benefits of an education. No wonder, most parents don't value an education either or they would pay more attention to their child's education and the amount of work and effort their child puts into learning, and most parents would rather spend $50k on a stupid car or kitchen remodel rather than put money into the educational system. Well, that is all I am going to ramble about today, although I could go on to further prove my point with well researched material. Get some shoes and get to school! | | |
| Okay, okay, okay. Guess it is time to update--briefly. I've been pretty busy on several fronts, the most immediate being the Mock Trial team and operating the scoreboard for the home basketball games. Thus, time has not allowed me to update more frequently. Our last Mock Trtial team competition is tomorrow night, and the final two basketball games are this Wednesday and Friday. Looking forward to a short break once these events are over. Other than that, not much has been going on. Starting to run again which is a blessing; it relieves stress and keeps me in shape. Hmmmmm, let's see. Can't think of anything right now, but, hey, it is 0615 hours in the morning! | | |
| So the Winter break is over and I am so happy to be back in the classroom! God, I don't know how I ever survived the summer; I barely made it through break! Beginning to plan a backpacking trip this summer. Patricia wants to go to Tenn. to visit a friend of hers from high school, and I have an uncle there that I want to visit; he is in the music industry (as if people in Tenn. do anything else!). So to treat myself to some outdoor time I am looking at spending a couple of weeks in the backcountry of Yosemite. The trip will probably cover about 100 miles give or take a few, and I truly am looking forward to it. Let's see. . . Every now and then I see old students, and it is good to hear that they are doing well. Most of them keep in touch via e-mail. Well, I need to get moving, so I will check in later. Good luck to all and have a Happy and Prosperous New Year! | | |
| Finals week, finals week, thank God it is finals week! Read all the comments, and I can see I have some work to do. Been a little lax in keeping this going, but will try and keep it up at least once a week or so. Yeah, I know I can say I am busy and don't have time, but who would accept that lame excuse? Guess this is what happens when one assigns a ton of essays at the end of the semester! Hmmm. . . all is well. My dad fell off of a stack of haybales and broke his arm. I told him being a cowboy sucked, but does he listen to me? Noooo, so now his arm is in a cast and he cannot play rodeo king for a while. Poor dude. Everybody have a great break, and I'll check in when we return. Late. | | |
